Rules in Playing International Rummy
The game known as
International Rummy
is a very exciting game that a lot of people from all over the world
play and love. This game is meant to be enjoyed by two players and
more, depending on the specific version of the game you are playing.
The more people there are in the game, the more challenging it
becomes. Although the classic Rummy games are often only for two
players, there are many versions of International Rummy that people
from all over the world have modified to include more players. The
international version of the game also requires two or three
standard 52-card decks plus Jokers. The number of decks that should
be used usually depend on the number of people playing the game. If
there are more people playing, then more decks should be used to
make sure that the game is challenging enough.
How International Rummy Differs from Basic Rummy
What is more commonly known as International Rummy is different
from the classic Rummy game because there are specific objectives in
a game that needs to be met by the players. These objectives make
the game more of a challenge to the players, thus making the game
more exciting than ever. If this objective is not met, the players
cannot lay off cards or form melds. Melding is a move that means
combining like cards into groups. You can combine cards of the same
value or cards of the same suit with consecutive values. Once you
form a meld, you can lay it down on the table. The melds on the
table can all be extended and added onto by all the players
including your opponents. The move of adding cards to the existing
melds on the table is called laying off of cards. Laying off is an
optional move. You can do this if you have a card to add. One
requirement is that before you can lay off a card, you need to have
formed your own meld on the table first. So in this game, there are
more things to do than in the basic Rummy game. First, you need to
meet the preset objectives, then meld your cards, then lay off your
cards. After every turn, you also have to discard a card from your
hand. This means you have three different moves to use in order to
get rid of your cards. The first player who gets rid of his entire
hand wins the hand, and the other players get penalized. All the
cards that remain in the hands of your opponents will be counted and
the player with the lowest score will win the game. The cards assume
values in the game, with wild cards and aces bearing the highest
points at 20, the face cards at 10, and the number cards at their
face value.
Buying Cards and Using Wild Cards in International Rummy
There is another unique move in International Rummy, which is
card buying. You are allowed to buy a card from an opponent,
particularly his discard, if no other player before you wants to buy
the card. To do this, you just pick up the discard from the discard
pile then take a card from the stock pile. But if you choose to buy
a card, you cannot discard a card during that same turn. Aside from
buying cards, there are also wild cards in every game of
International Rummy. Wild cards are the Jokers and the number two
cards.
These two cards can be used to substitute a card of any value
that is missing in a meld as long as not too many of the wild cards
are used. A meld consisting of three cards should only have one wild
card, while a meld with five cards can have two wild cards. If you
are able to form a seven-card meld, you can use three wild cards.
This means that your wild cards should be less than half of the
total number of cards in a sequence of a set. As a rule, if you use
any wild cards in a group, you can replace them with the original
card meant for that meld at any time during the game, but you cannot
remove the wild card from the meld. You can just move the wild card
to assume another card’s place.
The Objectives in International Rummy
Here’s a list of the objectives in an International Rummy game.
Every game consists of eight hands, the first four are ten-card
deals, the last four are twelve-card deals. The objective in the
first game is to form 2 sets consisting of three or more cards. For
game two, it is one set of three cards or more or one run of four
cards or more. For game three, the objective is two runs of four
cards or more. In game four, it is one set of four or more cards. In
game five, it is one set of three cards or more and one run of seven
cards or more. For game six, it is two sets of three or more cards
and one run of seven cards or more. In game seven, the players have
to form one set of three or more cards and two runs of four or more
cards.
